The Italian skier Peter Fill wishes himself a day of skiing for his birthday
Tomorrow the injured Vice World Champion will be 27 years old. Comeback in this season is doubtful
The training accident happened on 23
rd of August in Argentina. On 3
rd of September the silver medal winner of the 2009 World Championship in Val d'Isere underwent a complex surgery to repair the torn tendons in the groin and abdominal muscle area. Tomorrow, on his birthday Peter Fill wishes nothing more, than to be allowed to put his skis on once again.
But it is not so easy for the doctors to estimate the length of the healing process for this extremely rare injury and Peter Fill’s nearest professional future is slightly uncertain.
Since the surgery the Italian is going through an intensive rehabilitation program in Milan. He is determined to try everything to be able to take part in the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in February, 2010.
“For months only water exercises were on my program, but a week ago I began with some easy moves in the gym. Everything goes very slowly, but in sport one must be patient” – said the all-rounder alpine skier.
Tomorrow Peter Fill will celebrate his 27
th birthday in the family circle, and he wishes himself one thing above all:
“Hopefully my doctor gives me the permission to take the test to ski. For a start I would be happy even with a gliding wedge.”
In the meantime the leader of the Italian ski team has to take it slow with his physiotherapy.
“I have lost 7kg of muscle mass after the surgery and I had to wear my father’s trousers, but now these start to feel a little tight. This means the muscle build-up is going well.”
Now his participation in the Olympic Games depends on whether Peter Fill gets not only his birthday presents, but also some from Santa Claus.
