Peter Fill: “I know what Beckham is going through”
The football star will go under the knife of Sakari Orawa, who operated on the Italian skier before the Olympics
Yesterday, during the match for AC Milan David Beckham suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon. Only few months to go until the start of the FIFA World Cup, he will be operated by the Finnish surgeon, leading expert in tendon injuries Dr. Sakari Orawa. It is the same surgeon who handled the Italian national skier Peter Fill’s injury of the tendons in the groin and abdominal muscle area before Vancouver 2010.
“I know how it feels to get injured right before the most important event in which you want to participate at all costs and hope to play a leading role” – Peter Fill sympathizes with the English footballer –
“The Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup happen only once in 4 years, and when situation like mine or now Beckham’s arise, you are not sure if you will still be competing the next time or in what shape you will get there. Beckham has chosen the same surgeon that made it possible for me to be in Vancouver and I can confirm that he is in very good hands.”
Peter Fill’s manager Andreas Goller also remembers:
"Right after the accident, many thought that there was no hope for the Olympic Games for Peter, some considered that he wouldn’t even be able to compete at a high level again. Instead, Peter surprised everyone by a very quick recovery and participated in Vancouver.”
